Walter Mills Rogers was born in Canton, MS on July 2, 1915. He was born to James Joseph Fleming (Glenn) Rogers (August 31, 1865- September 20, 1958) and Beulah Ophelia Schultz Rogers (December 25, 1885- September 18, 1967).
The Rogers family lived on Beat 1 Madison, MS. The family had five children in total: Mabel Flemming Rogers (March 14, 1907- July 11, 1982), James Henry (Bill) Rogers (July 15, 1909- November 14, 1978), Mearl Avis Rogers (April 5, 1912- October 15, 1981), Walter (July 2, 1915- August 6, 1944), and USNR Yeoman 2nd Class Jean Vivian Rogers (January 17, 1924- May 25, 2004).
Walter was married to Leslie Karnese Dickerson (1921-1981) on April 25, 1939. Walter and Leslie had one child together, Martha Ann Rogers on August 16, 1940. After Walter’s death, Leslie remarried to Thomas H. Turner from Macon, MS. Walter and Leslie’s daughter, who went mostly by Ann, went on to graduate from Louisville High School and continued her studies at Mississippi State University. She was a member of the school’s Glee Club, Girls Chorus, Etude Club and a member of the annual staff. In 1960, Martha Ann Rogers married Terry Reynolds from Kosciusko, MS in Tuscaloosa, AL. They both finished their studies at Mississippi State University and then settled down in Kosciusko, MS where Terry is employed by Luval Dairy. Both Ann Rogers Reynolds and Terry Reynolds are still alive and living in Louisville, MS.
Walter received a college education at Mississippi State University. He was a senior at the University in 1940 at their School of Agriculture. Walter was a Member of the Y.M.C.A. Council and Agricultural Engineering Club during his time at Mississippi State.
