First Lieutenant Walter Mills Rogers was awarded the Silver Star for his gallant actions while serving with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, during battling the enemy in France in World War II. He was valiant and brave when serving and very dedicated to his country, America. He was dedicated to serving and duty, without regard for his life. The citation for his Silver Star was sent to his wife, Leslie Karnese Rogers, on May 3, 1945.
In August 1944, Walter died in battle in France while facing the enemy From this, he was honored with receiving the Purple Heart for his service in the US Army. In addition to these rewards, Walter also received the Combat Infantryman Badge, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and the European- African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
